What I should
know before I buy a gas or electric scooter.
Rider age
is most important when deciding what type of scooter to buy.
If the scooter is
for a child
your decision to allow that child to ride a power scooter should depend
on individual maturity, skill, and ability to follow rules. Smaller
children should be allowed to ride only those scooters that are
designed for small riders. Electric scooters are the best choice for
children under 10 years.
Kids should not be riding
adult scooters and adults should not try to squeeze onto a kids scooter.
Adult
and teen riders need to consider the power factor when
making their choice.
Electric
scooter power is rated in wattage. The higher the wattage
rating, the more powerful the scooter will be.
350 watts is the minimum wattage recommended for the average size adult
rider.
Gas scooters
are generally more powerful than electric scooters and can be ridden
longer distances.
The power rating for a gas scooter is expressed in engine size
like 25cc . (cc = cubic centimeters)
The higher the cc the more power you get. Gas scooters are great for 12
years old through adult riders.
Gas scooters are not recommended for children under 10 years.
Gas scooter noise
levels with the stock factory exhaust system in place can
be compared as slightly above a gas powered weed eater.
Regular
maintenance and adjustments
are required on both gas and electric scooters. For your
safety
and riding enjoyment, a pre ride inspection should be done before each
use.
